Artwork Detail
Susan Te Kahurangi King’s drawings are made with coloured pencils, ink, crayon and graphite – media she deploys with equal confidence. She constantly shifts viewpoints and perspectives in a single drawing. The artist’s control of a tipping space filled entirely with flailing limbs is deft and such combinations are often at once sensual and comedic. Here, separated arms and legs, shoes and socks, insects and flowers coexist in an undulating and crowded zone in which everything seems to fit together like a jigsaw.
