Matariki

Artwork Detail
I te tāera toikupu a Star Gossage, kua peitahia e ia ngā āhua wahine e whitu e noho ana ki te papa, he korowai me he paraikete ngā kākahu. He āhuatanga kakano, mata hoki, he wairua tūmatarau tō tā rātou noho tahi huri noa i te ahi i waho. Ko tā Gossage he whakawhitiwhiti i ngā ariā e karapoti ai, e whakapuaki ai i tōna kitenga mō ngā ao ōkiko, ao hinengaro, ao kare-ā-roto.
In her lyrical style Star Gossage has painted seven female figures sitting on the ground dressed in cloaks and blankets. Textural and raw, there is a magical sense to their gathering, nestled around a campfire. In this way Gossage is transmitting ideas that encircle and emit her inner vision of the physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional realms. (Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art, 2020)
