Like Frances Hodgkins, she was trained by Girolamo Nerli in Dunedin and she studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. Her paintings gained much favour and she showed at the Royal Academy, Scottish Academy and Paris Salon. Her paintings of women and girls are amongst her most distinguished work.
