Patrick Pound
The Photographer's Shadow

Artwork Detail
Patrick Pound is an Australian-based New Zealand artist who often reuses everyday snapshots to make ‘new’ historical tableaux. Over many years Pound has collected photographs and in the process produced an archive and image library from which he is able to present found photographs in new and novel groupings. As he has said: ‘To collect is to gather your thoughts through things.’
The Photographer’s Shadow, 2012 gathers images taken with raking daylight behind the photographer, so that often by chance their shadow has been included in the snapshot. When gathered together the photographs act like a group portrait, connecting people whose lives were once separate.
