Daniel von Sturmer
Painted Video

Artwork Detail
Melbourne-based artist Daniel von Sturmer’s video
constructions playfully draw attention to the trickery of image making. A cast of simple materials makes his meticulously choreographed experiments seem deceptively low-fi. Painted Video’s hypnotically expanding targets of liquid paint are less video works than they are animated paintings. Von Sturmer tackles the moving target of representation: evoking the geometric formalism of modernist painting through an image on a screen, he investigates the boundaries between real and represented spaces.
