Yvonne Todd
Susan Blunton

Artwork Detail
The blank-eyed stares of the sitters in Sea of Tranquillity are suggestive of the vacuous nature of studio and advertising photography. In this series, Yvonne Todd attempts to capture something just beyond our grasp, as these women stare unnervingly into space. Todd’s invented subjects are slightly sinister, fastidiously primped-up characters, with an air of piousness about them. Yet emptiness emanates from their austere gazes, suggesting that something unseen affects them.
