Colin McCahon
House in trees, Titirangi

Artwork Detail
This is one of Colin McCahon's first paintings of the area where he was living in French Bay, Titirangi. This geometric response to a complex massing of trees surrounding a small house is one of many instances where architectural forms and plant-forms are placed in harmonious contrast. One challenge to the painter was to contrast verticals and diagonals while also reinforcing a close tonality shared between all of the painting's hues. (Colin McCahon's Titirangi, 2002)
