Artwork Information
One of the largest and most ambitious paintings undertaken by Gretchen Albrecht, Aotearoa – Cloud expands upon the cosmological themes common in her semicircular paintings by addressing the relationship between the terrestrial and celestial realms. Albrecht’s white strokes reference the accumulation of cloud masses above the archipelago of New Zealand, and convey a sense of spiritual and physical transformation.
