Ngaahina Hohaia is from Parihaka, Taranaki. She graduated from Massey University with a Master of Māori Visual Arts in 2011.
Hohaia works across a range of media, including shell, wood, fibre and metal. Her relationship to Parihaka and its people is a significant influence on her work, which addresses the dispossession of Māori land and the continued impacts of colonisation.
Hohaia has received a number of awards, such as the Creative New Zealand Emerging Māori Artist Award in 2007 and the Arts Foundation New Generation Award in 2010.
