Notes towards Catalogue of Curios in the Art Gallery Grey Collection

This unpublished manuscript list was prepared by Edward Shillington (1835?-1920), first Auckland City Librarian, Art Gallery Director and later Curator, Grey Collection. It comprises c.80 pages of notes on the individual items that formed Sir George Grey's collection of artifacts. Initially gifted to the Library in 1887, the collection was transferred to the Auckland Art Gallery in 1892, when this listing was prepared. In 1915, the Art Gallery deposited the items with the Auckland Institute and Museum.
