Exhibition detail

The E H McCormick Research Library is highlighting early documents from the first fifty years of the Gallery's history. The exhibition explores the institution's beginnings: the gifting of works; the building and the 'fanfare' surrounding New Zealand's first dedicated public art gallery.

Timed to coincide with the Auckland Heritage Festival, included are early audience reactions, the demonstrated 'civic pride' in the Gallery, and the famous visitors it attracted.
