Reduced to the basics of white on black, 'Free Radicals' involved Lye using a variety of tools to scrach the surface of the film's celluloid. The Library of Congress listed this film as a 'classic to be preserved for all time'.

This is one of a series of Len Lye films reprinted by the National Film Unit to form part of the 1980 Auckland Art Gallery exhibition ‘Len Lye: A Personal Mythology’.
