Envoys: The Association of Women Artists International Postcard Project

Archive Collection Detail
Envoys was an exhibition organized by the Association of Women Artists to celebrate the centenary of the granting of the vote to New Zealand women (1893-1993). The purpose was ‘to strengthen the voice of women’s common concerns, to acknowledge the universality of their gender, and to generate images from the present that [would] touch future generations’.
Postcards of a prescribed size were sought both nationally and internationally from women artists and resulted in close to 500 cards being exhibited at Lopdell House Gallery, Titirangi, Auckland in April/ May 1996.
This archive consists of a limited edition set of postcards in a box designed by the archive’s donor Beth Serjeant, as well as an interview on DVD, an article and exhibition ephemera.
