Natural Selection Archive

Archive Collection Detail

Natural Selection was an online publication presented as a downloadable PDF that contained writing and page works relating to Australasian art. The intention of the editors, Gwynneth Porter and Dan Arps, was to produce a vehicle for the arts community providing a ‘free-press, non-financial approach to criticism’ (Editorial, Issue 1). It ran from 2004 to 2010 and there are seven issues. Besides editors Porter and Arps and designer/ webmaster, Warren Olds, issues were guest edited by James Lynch and David Hatcher and for some issues edited by a team of artists and art writers. The archive, covering the years 2004 to 2010, consists of printed out issues of Natural Selection, 'coloured-in' and commissioned covers, exhibition documentation and presentations, as well as promotional items and collateral from Documenta 12, Kassel, 2007.
