Ikon Gallery Archive

Archive Collection Detail

The Ikon Gallery (originally named The Gallery) was opened on Symonds Street, Auckland, in 1960 by Don Wood and Frank Lowe, architecture students in their early twenties. It remained in business until 1965. As one of the few dealer galleries in Auckland at the time (the space in Argus House had formerly been occupied by Peter Webb's Gallery) it exhibited many leading New Zealand artists, such as Colin McCahon, Pat Hanly, and Don Binney. It was succeeded by Barry Lett Galleries.

This archive consists of correspondence A-Z, business documents paper and books, media clippings, and catalogues and promotional material.
