Explore art together with our free family activities. Drop-in on Saturday afternoons and get creative with the kids, read story books relating to our exhibitions or play one of our Gallery Games to engage your family with art throughout our whole building.
Extra family drop-ins
We're hosting extra family drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2–4pm through out the school holidays.
Enjoy a free paper folding activity over the school holidays inspired by Lee Mingwei and His Relations. Create your own paper sculpture using the paper and instruction sheets provided, then you can decide to:
- Leave your sculpture as a gift for someone else.
- Gift your sculpture to someone – maybe someone you don’t know!
- Take a sculpture left by someone else – as a gift to you!
Free family drop-ins take place every Saturday. Join us any time between 1–3pm and stay for as long – or as short – as you want.
Create art together with the whole family during these sessions inspired by art currently on display.
There is no need to book, although participation is limited by space. Sessions are designed for children aged 4 and up. All children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Check exact location with the Gallery Assistants at our information desk when you arrive.
Remember that your first hour of weekend parking is free – park at Auckland Transport's Victoria Street car park and validate your ticket before leaving the Gallery.
The Story Corner is a quiet space for families to enjoy books that relate to themes in our current exhibitions. The space is located in the south atrium on the ground level.
Our Gallery Games and activities encourage fun, shared-learning experiences for families and groups with children at the Gallery.
Gallery Games are free and available every day between 10am – 4pm. Download games below before your visit or pick the activities up on the day. Paper-based activities are available to keep, while others are available for borrowing during your visit. Ask at the information desk for more details.
Keep an eye on this page or subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter via the footer of any page to hear first about upcoming special events.
