We Read Auckland – Reading Party

12–2pm

event Details

We Read Auckland is coming to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki!

Come along and join our reading party. Celebrate the launch of Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Council Libraries’ annual We Read Auckland festival by taking residence in Auckland Art Gallery’s beautiful Grey Gallery and Te Ātea | North Atrium spaces with pods of bean bags and seating for reading zone. Bring your own book, borrow an Auckland-authored Bestie book from our pop-up libraries, or visit the E H McCormick Research Library on the Mezzanine floor to read about artists and exhibitions currently on display across the Gallery.

Choose a comfy spot and settle in for some quiet reading with an optional kōrero with local booklovers and librarians to finish.

This event is most suitable for adults aged 18 years and up, but we will also have a cosy reading corner for whānau with books to browse and borrow in Te Ātea | North Atrium.

From 12pm: Meet in the Grey Gallery or Te Ātea | North Atrium to browse our book selections at our pop-up libraries and the E H McCormick Research Library.

12:15pm: The crew from Auckland Council Libraries will give everyone a quick run-down of what to expect, then you can find a spot and get comfy!

12:30pm: Settle in for up to an hour of quiet reading. Read whatever you like and however you like (eBooks, eAudiobooks with headphones, graphic novels, magazines are all fine). You’re welcome to leave earlier if you like or move into Te Ātea | North Atrium for a kōrero.

1:30–1:55pm: Optional kōrero about what you’re reading with friends, other readers or our friendly librarians – or just keep on reading! Pop-up libraries will remain open to browse and borrow some more books, or check out the Gallery’s own treasure, the E H McCormick Research Library.

2pm Reading party wraps up – thanks for coming!

This event is in collaboration with Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Council Libraries.
