SOLD OUT Skyward with Reuben Paterson

6–7.30pm

event Details

Please note: This event is now sold out. This event had been rescheduled and will go ahead on Wednesday 28 July.

Celebrate the forthcoming, spectacular sculpture by contemporary artist Reuben Paterson (Ngāti Rangitihi, Ngāi Tūhoe and Tūhourangi) – a 10-metre-high crystal waka suspended vertically and casting a galaxy of stars over the Gallery’s forecourt pool.

Made of hundreds of iridescent crystals that illuminate the Gallery in rainbow refractions, Paterson says ‘the waka appears to venture skyward’ traversing a spectacular journey from Papatūānuku into the embrace of Ranginui’s open skies.

Admire the waka under the night sky while enjoying an inu (drink) and light kai, then sit down for a conversation in intimate setting between Reuben and Head of Curatorial & Learning Sarah Farrar. They will discuss the artist’s inspiration, process and meaning behind this stunning new commission. Refreshments are included, no door sales.
