Doc Edge Pride presents: The Gospel of Eureka

7.45pm

event Details

The small town of Eureka Springs in Arkansas has some colourful attractions. For three nights a week during the summer The Great Passion Play is staged, an elaborate production that portrays the death of Christ. Meanwhile, in Eureka Live, a bar across town owned by gay couple Gregory Lee Keating and Walter Burrell, drag queens slap on their make-up and belt out gospel hits at karaoke. These would appear to be contrasting worlds, though in directors Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher’s supremely entertaining, wryly humorous documentary the similarities are marked, making this smart investigation of co-existing Southern cultures a camp, colourful delight.
