Cook Island Dance and Flower Adornment Workshops with Anna-Marie Taruia-Temanu

event Details

Join Anna-Marie Taruia-Temanu for a free ura (Cook Island dance) and an ei katu (crown) workshop as part of the 2024 season of the Pacific Dance Festival.

Anna-Marie has been a dance champion in the Cook Islands and at Te Eiva Nui Australia. Now based in Tāmaki Makaurau, she dedicates time to helping with Polyfest, Te Maeva Nui NZ, community projects and teaching her own children to dance.

Her interest in the art of ei katu (head adornment) comes from a long line of talented creators: from her great grandmother and grandma to her mum.

Please book to attend so that we can prepare workshop materials. Your booking will require attendance for both workshops (not just one or the other). Please note that this workshop is in a public and visible space. Wear comfortable clothing (pareu or lavalava if available) and bring a water bottle.

  • 11.30am–12.30pm: Ura (Cook Island Dance) Workshop
  • 12.30–1.30pm: Ei Katu (Crown) Workshop

This workshop is FREE and are part of an all-day celebration including Pacific Dance OnScreen and Pacific Dance Open Rehearsals.
