4 October 2018

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki will be exploring art collecting in a new talk series, My Art Collector Series, launching Sunday 4 November.

My Art Collector Series aims to inspire and educate the art lovers and collectors of today and tomorrow, bringing industry experts and collectors together to talk about their shared interest in and expertise on collecting art. The curated talk series will cover topics such as how to start your own collection, caring for art and reflections on the contemporary art market, as well as tours to private collections, dealer galleries and the Auckland Art Fair.

Auckland Art Gallery’s Deputy Director Craig Goodall says: ‘My Art Collector Series has been developed by the Gallery’s membership team, and rounds out a rich series of events designed for those who wish to connect more deeply with the Gallery specifically and with the visual arts generally.’

‘My Art Collectors Series is for anyone who is interested in learning more about collecting art. If you would like help in starting or developing an art collection, and wish to support art and artists, then I hope you will join us.’

The series launches with talks by Natasha Conland, Curator, Contemporary Art and Julia Waite, Curator, New Zealand Art, who will give behind-the-scenes insights to Auckland Art Gallery’s collection.

My Art Collector Series is delivered by Auckland Art Gallery’s membership programme in partnership with My Art, a not-for-profit organisation that makes it easier to buy art with interest-free loans at most New Zealand galleries.

The launch event is open to all, however subsequent events in the series are limited to Gallery Members, who also receive unlimited free entry to paid exhibitions, exclusive exhibition previews, and discounts at the Gallery café and shop.

About My Art:

My Art is a not-for-profit organisation that makes it easier to buy art with interest-free loans at most New Zealand galleries. Their mission is to support artists and the vibrancy of the New Zealand art scene by making the purchase of art more accessible – so everyone can experience the joy of living with art.

Interest-free loans are available and require a 10% deposit then nine equal monthly repayments. Loans can be used either to make buying easier or to buy a special work. Apply online to get pre-approved or apply in a participating gallery.

My Art pays the gallery directly, so purchasers can take the art home and enjoy it straight away. This partnership with Auckland Art Gallery is one of the many steps My Art is taking to help support local artists and keep the New Zealand art community dynamic and energetic.
