Renata Kawepo Tama ki Hikurangi accompanied Bishop G A Selwyn on his first tour of New Zealand between 1842-43. A travelled and widely known rangatira of Heretaunga. Kawepo was born at Taumata-o-he pa, and he had a leading role in the campaign against Te Kooti from 1868 – 1870.
