Norrie by Rebecca Swan

Artwork Detail

On page 90 of Assume Nothing, Norrie is quoted stating; ‘My name is norrie mAy-welby. That means I may well be a male I may well be female I may well be both. To a degree I’m all those things.

In 1989 I had the sex change surgery, genital realignment, vaginoplasty. I haven’t had any other surgery. I didn’t want breast implants, I’m quite happy with my breasts being flesh and blood. It’s been hard as a tranni for me to feel my body is attractive because if doesn’t fit any of the stereotypes. I won’t see it in a picture, I won’t see an actor with the same body. It doesn’t have a fixed gender.’
