John B. Turner (b 1943) is a New Zealand photographer, writer and teacher. A mentor and driving force for others, Turner became lecturer in photography at Elam School of Fine Art, University of Auckland in 1971 and co- launched the photographic collective PhotoForum two years later. He has collected information on photography since 1965 when he was a press photographer in Wellington, and his extensive archive now contains items dated from 1887 to 2015.
The Archive includes information files on artists and other art/photography subjects and items of photographic equipment. The files are made up of media clippings, correspondence, exhibition ephemera, research notes, student work, publications and photographic reproductions, prints and transparencies. In addition, Turner's forty-year long academic career is represented in separate files.
