Auckland Art Gallery Archive

Artwork Detail
Auckland Art Gallery opened in 1888 sharing a building with the Auckland Free Public Library that had opened the year before. While founding documents are held at Auckland Council Archives, the Gallery's Research Library holds a significant amount of material, both original and copies pertaining to the many functions of the organisation. These include: information files on major donors, governance, staff, history and projects and events; exhibition ephemera from 1927; visual documentation, particularly of the building and exhibition programme; early directors’ correspondence; visitors books; press clipping scrapbooks; and all Gallery publications.
