Artwork Detail

Dennis Turner born 1924 in Wanganui, died 2011, was a New Zealand expatriate artist who left New Zealand in 1963. Turner's subject matter used Oceanic and Maori motifs as well as New Zealand imagery such as landscapes and shearers. In 1992 he returned to NZ for an artist's residency at the Sarjeant Gallery where he focused on tiki motifs from his earlier work. The archive consists of folders compiled by the artist of photos and ephemera from his exhibitions in NZ. There are also research drawings made at the time of his residency and a box of photos of the artist and his friends from childhood to his later years at the Sarjeant Gallery.
