Artwork Detail
Charles Tole (1903-1988), together with his brother John (1890-1957), were both painters who played an important part in the development of art in the Auckland region from the 1940s. The Toles were active members of the Auckland Society of Arts and the Thornhill Group, contributing a body of work which addressed the subject of industrial landscape in a cubist-derived, modernist style. These papers consist of correspondence, artworks, ephemera, black and white photos and negatives, notebooks, sketch-books, slides, books, press-clippings, a play transcript, musical scores, periodicals, and artist's materials
