In this etching Piranesi imagines a grand, extended loggia running beside the river, standing on a line of huge piers. In the central arch he places an equestrian statue of the Emperor which he draws attention to in the text below. Whereas text included in many of his prints document the architectural details relating to specific constructions, in this instance he imagines the scene as one that a Roman Emperor might have commissioned.
