Biography
Graduating with a Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts from Massey University, and influenced by her grandmother’s weaving and her uncle Selwyn Muru’s career and guidance, Claudine Muru explores art that connects to ancestral knowledge of planting ceremonies during Matariki, the Māori New Year.

Sculpting molten lumps of glass with steel tools, Muru is known for her bold forms of kūmara and hue that are rich in colour, often referencing themes of regeneration, rebirth and whakapapa.
