Overview
Little Polynesia is a gritty look at Auckland's
changing urban environment and evolving social makeup. This
screening by the New Zealand Film Archive provides a social history
of Auckland; now home of the largest Polynesian population in the
world.
Since the booming 1960s, barriers to immigration from the South
Pacific have changed according to New Zealand's economic conditions
and public opinion. 'Little Polynesia' includes diverse articles on
pacifika activism, the Polynesian Panthers movement, dawn raids,
effects of racism, life in Ponsonby's slums, work in the factory
and much more.
