Overview
Saints and seraphs (one of the nine different types of angels)
have captured the imagination of many artists throughout
history.
In times of uncertainty and death such as the plague,
angels and saints provided hope, both with their stories of
survival against the odds and as figures to pray to in the
hope that they might intercede on behalf of the faithful.
Saints and Seraphs examines the depiction of the lives of saints
and the stories of angels through European art from the
sixteenth century to the present day.
