Auckland Council has begun construction works on upgrading upper
Khartoum Place, over the road from the entrance to the Gallery. The
development is scheduled to be completed by August 2014. In the
meantime, it is expected that there will be occasional periods of
closure for Kitchener Street - for the latest on the development
check the Council website.
Bus, train and ferry
Find us just off Queen Street in Auckland's CBD - a 15-minute walk
from Britomart Transport Centre and the Ferry Building.
Ride up Queen Street on the City LINK bus or jump on the Outer
LINK bus to travel to the Gallery along Wellesley Street. (View the

Hop on and off the Auckland Explorer bus, which stops at the
nearby Civic Theatre every 30 minutes.
Taxis can pick up and drop off from the loading bays on Kitchener
If you're looking for a park near us, try the Victoria Street or Civic car parks (view or download map
below). Their hourly rates are reasonable and both are situated
close to the Gallery (i.e. within 250m).
A mobility parking bay is located on Kitchener Street and

Photography and copyright
You are welcome to take still and video
photographs for personal (i.e non-commercial) use in the galleries
housing the permanent collection, with the exception of the Maori
portraits of known ancestors. Photography and filming are normally
not permitted in the temporary exhibition galleries.
All restricted areas will display
signage at the entrance of the exhibition or gallery space advising
of the photography restrictions. An icon will also appear on
the label of the known Maori portraits.
The use of tripods, flash or other
means of artificial lighting is prohibited.
For security reasons, the same
restrictions apply to the photographing or filming of technical
installations and equipment.
The reproduction of images of works
from the permanent collection is permitted for private,
non-commercial, or media review use only, otherwise it is a
breach of the Copyright Act.
Special permits for photography or
filming in restricted areas may be authorised for educational,
research or media-related projects, if no reproductions are
available and copyright law permits.

The Gallery respects artistic and intellectual property rights.
Many of the works displayed at the Gallery are subject to copyright
legislation. The artist/copyright holder retains the right to
reproduce a work of art. The Gallery is responsible for ensuring
that right is protected.
No image, documentation or sound recording displayed at the
Gallery or appearing on the Gallery website may be reproduced,
communicated or copied without permission, other than for the
purposes of private research or study, in which case full and
proper attribution must be given. For the Maori portraits, this
will also include gaining permission from the descendants of a
Unauthorised commercial publication or reproduction of any part
of the Auckland Art Gallery Collection is prohibited and in breach
of the Copyright Act.
It is the individual's responsibility to obtain permission from
the copyright holders, or their agent, before a reproduction of any
work or any other content is made. Not adhering to these
conditions may constitute an infringement of Copyright regulations,
which may incur penalties including fines to the person
Free Wi-fi access is available in the Gallery. Your first 30
minutes or 30MB (which ever comes first) are free once per day.
Longer paid access is available if you have a Tomizone account.
To connect to our wi-fi network, first ensure you have enabled
wi-fi on your mobile device. Select the network Auckland
WIFI @ Tomizone. A login screen will appear - select
'Accept Terms and Conditions' and your session will begin.
The Gallery requires visitors to check umbrellas, backpacks of
any size, shopping bags, and large bags into our free cloakroom. To
ensure the safety of artworks, the Gallery does not permit visitors
to wear bags on their backs in the galleries. The Gallery reserves
the right to refuse other items and is not responsible for items
held by the cloakroom.
For lost property enquiries please contact our front desk in
person or call 09 354 2194. Please provide a full description of
the lost item and the date you visited the Gallery, along with your
If you have left an item in our cloakroom, please bring your
cloaking tag (red rubber bangle) to the Gallery and we will return
your property to you. If you have lost your cloaking tag please
contact the Gallery on the phone number listed above. All lost
property is retained for three months before being disposed of.
Baby strollers are permitted at all times and must be in the
control of an adult. Children are not permitted to push strollers
in the gallery.
No food or drink is permitted in the Gallery.
Breastfeeding mothers are welcome to feed their babies on any of
the public seating in the galleries.
Due to restrictions on food and drink in and around art works,
bottle feeding for babies or toddlers can only take place in the
seating areas in our North Atrium (mezzanine level) and main foyer
(ground level). Likewise, if children need a top-up of food during
their visit, please use these two areas only. Our staff can assist
in guiding you to the right area, so please ask the nearest Gallery
Guide for help.
For all other visitors there is no food and drink permitted in
