  • What are your opening hours?

    We are open daily from 10am - 5pm, except on Christmas Day. Please be aware that the café and espresso bar close earlier than the Gallery - you can view their opening hours here.

  • Can I see a map of the Gallery?

  • Where can I park?

    If you're looking for a park near us, try the Victoria Street or Civic car parks (view or download map). Their hourly rates are reasonable and both are situated within 250m from the Gallery.

    A mobility parking bay is located on Kitchener Street and disabled parking is also available at the car parks mentioned above.

  • The free City LINK bus stops nearest the Gallery are 7053 or 7054. The Outer LINK bus travels along Wellesley Street past the Gallery - the nearest bus stops are 1094, 7088 and 7089. View the Maxx website for more information about buses.

  • Do you have wheelchairs available?

    All galleries and facilities are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are available from the front desk free of charge.


  • Do you have a café?

    The Gallery has a café and espresso bar where you can relax and refuel. You can find the café on Level 1 and the espresso bar on Level 2.

  • Can I take photographs in the Gallery?

    You are welcome to take still and video photographs for personal (i.e non-commercial) use in the galleries housing the permanent collection, with some exceptions and conditions. Please refer to our photography and copyright policy.


  • Do you have wi-fi?

    Yes, the Gallery has free wi-fi. To connect and for more details, visit our Location and Access page.

  • What construction is taking place opposite the Gallery?

    Auckland Council has begun construction on upgrading upper Khartoum place, over the road from the entrance to the Gallery. It is expected that there will be periods of closure for Kitchener Street. We will advise of these closure with as much notice as possible. The development is scheduled to be completed by August 2014 - more info on the development can be found on the Council website.

  • Can I hire the Art Gallery?

    The Gallery does hire some of its spaces for corporate and private events - you can find more information on our Venue Hire page.

  • Do you have any programmes suitable for children?

    We have a variety of events and activities for children - you can view them in the Learning section under Families and Children.

  • My child is 4 1/2. Can he/she attend your children's programmes?

    The Gallery has designed and resourced our studio courses and holiday workshops for children aged 5-12 to ensure that we provide an entertaining and engaging activity for this age range.

    We do not accept children under 5 to these activities because experience has shown us that they often need more support than we can provide to achieve the same level of enjoyment. However, our weekly family drop-in sessions can be enjoyed by all ages.

  • Can I put some of my brochures at your front desk?

    The Gallery has very limited space for promotional material at the front desk but you can add your art event to our community events listing, the Neighbourhood.

  • Can I request a valuation or attribution for my painting?

    The Gallery cannot provide valuations or attributions (identifying the artist responsible for a work). Please contact a reputable dealer or auction house.

  • How do I get an exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery?

    Our Curatorial team are constantly researching local and international artists and are regular visitors to local, national and international exhibitions. The best way to get an exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is to get exposure through dealer, community and artist-run exhibitions.

  • Why can't I take my bag into the Gallery?

    You can take small handbags into the Gallery; however we do ask that you leave backpacks and larger bags in our secure cloakroom to help everyone enjoy their visit.

  • I left something at the Gallery. How do I get it back?

    For lost property enquiries please contact our front desk in person or call 09 354 2194. Please provide a full description of the lost item and the date you visited the Gallery, along with your contact details.

    If you have left an item in our cloakroom, please bring your cloaking tag (red rubber bangle) to the gallery and we will return your property to you. If you have lost your cloaking tag please contact the Gallery on the phone number listed above. All lost property is retained for three months before being disposed of.

  • Can I feed my young children in the Gallery?

    Breastfeeding mothers are welcome to feed their babies on any of the public seating in the galleries.

    Due to restrictions on food and drink in and around art works, bottle feeding for babies or toddlers can only take place in the seating areas in our North Atrium (mezzanine level) and main foyer (ground level). Likewise, if children need a top-up of food during their visit, please use these two areas only. Our staff can assist in guiding you to the right area, so please ask the nearest Gallery Guide for help.

    For all other visitors there is no food and drink permitted in the Gallery.

    Baby changing facilities are located throughout the building.
