Lucy Carrington Wertheim gifted 154 works by modern British artists to the Gallery in 1948, through her support of expatriate artist Frances Hodgkins.

“My father Rex Fairburn, who got to know Lucy Carrington Wertheim in London in the early 1930s, was instrumental in arranging for her gift of the Wertheim collection to the Auckland Art Gallery. I would be most interested to talk with any of her descendants about her wonderful generosity.
