Contact us
The Friends of the Auckland Art Gallery is a voluntary organisation
dedicated to encouraging interest in the visual arts. The association
was founded in 1954, with the aim of supporting the Auckland Art
Gallery, and its membership represents those people who are most
interested in maintaining the excellence of this public gallery.
The members participate in gallery-based
programmes: exhibition previews, lectures, films, concerts; and they
extend the work of the gallery through organisational efforts and
contributions.
Over the years the Friends have provided funds for the purchase of
over 80 artworks, including many New Zealand paintings and sculptures.
Those works form a valued part of the permanent collection.
In 1983 the Friends established the Friends Acquisitions Trust Fund
to collect donations and accumulate funds for the purchase of works for
the Gallery's collection.
