Christina Barton is a Senior Lecturer in Art History and Director of the Adam
Art Gallery at Victoria University of Wellington. She is an art historian,
writer and curator with specialist knowledge of contemporary New Zealand art and
its critical histories from the 1960s to the present. She has written
extensively on aspects of contemporary New Zealand art, including having
compiled a substantial history of post-object art in New Zealand from 1969-1979.
She is currently working on a major retrospective of the work of New Zealand's
leading conceptual artist, Billy Apple.
Natasha Conland is Curator Contemporary Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o
Tāmaki, and is currently working on an exhibition of international contemporary
art for the gallery titled Mystic Truths. Alongside the SCAPE biennial in 2006
she was co-curator of the CAFÉ 2 project for the Busan Biennale in South Korea.
In 2005 she curated et al.'s the fundamental practice for New Zealand's
representation to the Venice Biennale and was the former curator contemporary
art at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. She writes on contemporary
art for a number or journals and catalogues, and in 2004 edited the publication
and curated the exhibition Judy Darragh: So ... you made it? She has previously
lectured in contemporary art and theory at the Auckland University of Technology
and in various universities within New Zealand.
Wystan Curnow is a Professor of English at the University of Auckland.
He has published widely on modern and contemporary art and literature, and has curated many exhibitions. His projects include monographic shows on Colin
McCahon (1984) Billy Apple (1991) and Max Gimblett (2004) and books on Imants
Tillers (1998), and Stephen Bambury (2001). Modern Colours is the latest of his
four books of poetry.
