Overview
Peter Tomory (1922-2008) was an esteemed art historian, art
museum director and academic. Born in Hong Kong in 1922, Tomory
studied at the University of Edinburgh and began a career in the
fine arts which included the directorship of the Auckland City Art
Gallery from 1956-65. He held academic appointments at the
Universities of Auckland and Columbia; Hunter College, New
York; and La Trobe University, Melbourne. Tomory returned to the
United Kingdom upon retirement in 1987. The archive consists of
diaries, lecture notes, academic research notes, academic
publications, personal writing, personal ephemera and
correspondence.
