Biography
Born into a movie-making family, Heperi Mita grew up in Hawai‘i and Los Angeles.

In 2019, he made his directorial debut with the feature documentary Merata: How Mum Decolonised the Screen – an intimate portrait of his late mother, activist and pioneering Māori film-maker, Merata Mita.

Mita’s practice is a reflection of his film, journalism and archivist training. He is currently working on oral histories with activists and film-makers of the early 1980s.
