Kids Club - art for children

11am and 2pm every Sunday

Sundays will never be boring once you come and join in on the fun at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Look, learn and create in special workshops with Tutor, Prue Cunningham and the Gallery Guides.

Only $6 per child which includes all materials.
Ideal for all budding artists from 5 to 10 years.

Workshops start promptly at 11am and 2pm so please arrive early to secure your booking.

Warrior, Prince, Creature, Queen
Come and transform yourself into your favourite character, using fabric, fancywork, and of course a touch of fantasy inspired by Walters Prize nominee, Lisa Reihana who has photographed a collection of powerful personalities in her installation Digital Marae.

My Mountain, my home
Do you have a favourite mountain, or one you call home? Artists have long been fascinated with mountainous landscapes, be they snow-capped peaks or dusty ranges. So today we will teach you some special techniques to help make your own magnificent mountain landscape.

Something old, something new...
Artist Tony de Latour has made an art work by starting with an old second-hand landscape painting and then painting something of his own on to it ! So why not us? Today we start with someone else's andscape then adorn it with our own creature creations.

The Sea and the Sky
The seashore is a favourite setting for so many landscape painters. Thinking forward to all those long summer days at the beach we will create our own mixed media art work incorporating land, sea and sky.

Let's Get Art with Brad Irwin and John Ward-Knox
Let's Get Art is a brand new picture book for children on understanding contemporary art. Written by lecturer and art educator, Brad Irwin and illustrated by artist, John Ward Knox. The book combines photographs of art with illustrations. Brad and John show us how they created the book and its characters - Posy, Tama, William and Olive.

Photo-collage
Get your scissor hands ready because today we use the amazing work of Ava Seymour to inspire a picture by cutting and pasting from magazines to create our own cast of weird and wonderful characters.

Scraffito town
Scraffito? No its not an ice cream or a new pizza but a very special art technique. Today a scene of city lights and buildings at night will appear before your very eyes once the secret of the technique is revealed.

Sensational sculptures
Come and be totally amazed by Peter Robinson's gigantic, squirming, mega installation ACK. Then mix equal parts of modelling clay, construction skills and your wonderful imagination to make your own jaw-dropping mini sculpture

Holiday programme

Don't get bored during the school holidays!

The Auckland Art Gallery runs exciting holiday art programmes every school holidays.

Ideal for all budding artists  aged from 5 to 12 years.
10am to 12pm
Cost: $10 per child includes all materials a drink and a biscuit.
Please note that for each programme each day is the same.
Limited to 25 per workshop

Framing your family
There is nothing like an impressive frame to make a family portrait really stand out. So bring along some photographs of your whanau for us to photocopy and transform into a mixed media collage then finally framed by a specially designed and decorated frame – a combination guaranteed to have all of your family and friends in awe.
