Overview
How much more space do we have?
The restoration and expansion of the building created at least
50 per cent more space for the display of the collections, as well
as international and national touring exhibitions.
How much did it cost?
$121 million.
Who is paying and has all the money been raised?
The total cost of the project is $121 million. Of this, the
former Auckland City Council has committed $56.1 million. The
balance comes from a central government commitment of $30 million
(plus an additional $1.5 million in interest on this sum), and from
the Auckland Art Gallery Foundation who have committed to raising
$33.4 million.
Where were exhibitions shown during the development?
During the closure of the main Gallery building from 2008, all
exhibitions, events and public programmes continued at the NEW
Gallery, just across the road from the main gallery building in
Khartoum Place.
